Q: Does your DieselMax comply with the government mandate that all diesel fuel for on-road (highway) vehicles must be Ultra Low Sulphur Diesel (ULSD)?

A: Yes, the additives in DieselMax are specifically formulated to enhance ULSD fuel, which has a sulphur content of less than 15 parts per million (ppm). Environment Canada regulations mandate that all diesel sold for light duty vehicles driven on roads must be ULSD-compliant to help lower NOx and particulate matter emissions associated with smog and acid rain. "Light duty" refers to all diesel vehicles except off-road vehicles(snowmobiles, ATVs, etc.), heavy transport trucks, locomotives and marine engines.

Q: If ULSD lowers NOx emissions, why do you need an additive in DieselMax? Isn't it already a cleaner product for the environment?

A: The low sulphur content in DieselMax and the emission control systems in new diesel engines are both intended to decrease NOx and particulate matter emissions. However, our additives package maintains new engines in top condition with low emissions and brings the performance of older engines back to "like new" conditions with fewer emissions.

Q: What is lubricity in diesel fuel and why is it important?

A: Lubricity is the ability of a fluid to reduce friction and wear between two moving parts. Ultra low sulphur diesel has fewer naturally occurring compounds that provide lubricity. To avoid metal-to-metal wear, DieselMax contains additives that improve the base fuel's lubricating qualities.

Q: The drivers of my fleet of light duty trucks need to start their vehicles in very cold weather and don't want clogged filters during winter driving. How does DieselMax measure up in this regard?

A: DieselMax is formulated for Canadian winters. To help with cold starts, it contains a cetane improver that increases the cetane number of the base fuel by one to three numbers. In addition, it improves thermal and oxidation stability to reduce filter plugging and increase fuel stability. Field tests on truck and bus fleets show our superior additive extends the life of filters two to five times when compared to diesel fuel containing no additives.

Q: Will I pay more for DieselMax?

A: No. DieselMax is premium diesel available at regular diesel price.

Using DieselMax

Q: I own a diesel-fuelled vehicle that's several years old. Is DieselMax safe for my older vehicle? I'm concerned because my operating manual doesn't address ultra low sulphur diesel fuel.

A: DieselMax is formulated to work in both new and older diesel-fuelled vehicles. It keeps new engines operating like new, and it cleans up older engines to prevent performance loss due to engine deposits. Our customers report that often just two to three fills with DieselMax are enough to offset earlier performance losses through using regular diesel.

Q: I'm planning on buying a new diesel-fuelled vehicle. Is DieselMax's formulation OK for my new vehicle?

A: Yes, DieselMax is specially formulated for new vehicles, which have higher fuel injection pressures and temperatures.

top

Q: I've been using a bottled detergent-type additive with regular diesel over the last few years to improve performance. Should I continue to use this additive with DieselMax?

A: If you're filling up with DieselMax, you can stop using bottled additives. DieselMax contains a superior detergent additive and other additives that improve performance, engine wear and emissions control.

top

Q: Will my mileage be the same or better with DieselMax?

A: In addition to the fuel you use, a wide range of factors affect mileage, including driver habits, road and weather conditions, tire pressure and overall vehicle maintenance. With all factors remaining equal, tests have shown that Husky's DieselMax improves mileage by as much as five per cent.

Q: Will I still be able to use off-road diesel fuel for my farm and off-road vehicles such as tractors, snowmobiles and quads?

A: Yes, you will still be able to use off-road diesel with less than 500 ppm sulphur content in these vehicles until 2010; however the conversion to ultra low sulphur diesel content began in 2007 to meet new standards. In 2010, Environment Canada will require that all off-road diesel fuel contain less than 15 ppm sulphur to meet the ULSD standard.
